In Memoriam

Byong Chol Yu, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center in Westwood, California, at the age of 82.

He was born on January 20, 1944 (December 25, 1943 lunar calendar), in Korea. He pursued higher education at Korea University Law School and later at Yonsei University Graduate School of Public Administration. In 1976, he married the love of his life, Kil Ok Yu (Grace Yu).

In 1979, he immigrated to the United States and built a life of dedication and service. In 1991, he opened Eastland Pharmacy, where he faithfully served his community until his retirement in 2011.

In the final months of his life, he accepted God and found peace and comfort through faith.

Byong Chol Yu is survived by his beloved wife, Grace Yu, and his two sons, Chong (Joseph) Yu and David Yu. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, perseverance, and devotion to his family.

Schedule

  • Funeral Service: Saturday, March 7, 2026 | 1:00 PM | Hua Yuan Hall of Grace
  • Graveside Service: To follow immediately after chapel service (approx. 5‑minute drive by procession)
  • Dinner Reception: 4:15 PM

Arrival

  • Guests may enter the chapel starting at 1:00 PM
  • If you arrive early, you are welcome to wait at the Visitation Center, which has seating and vending machines
  • Hua Yuan has its own parking lot adjacent to the arrangements parking lot

Procession to Graveside

  • All family and guests will follow the hearse in procession — no need to worry about finding the location
  • There will be 16 chairs and a sun canopy at the graveside (weather permitting)
  • The graveside service is 1 hour. Those wishing to witness the lowering of the casket should arrive within the first 30 minutes

Flowers

  • Flower deliveries must be made to the Rose Hills Flower Delivery room between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM on the day of the service
  • Please include the name Byong Chol Yu, service date (March 7), and time (1:00 PM) on the order
  • Do not deliver flowers directly to the chapel, as they may be exposed to sun (unless an hour before service)
  • Rose Hills staff will transport all flowers from the chapel to the graveside

Food & Drink

  • No food or drink is permitted inside or outside the chapel during the 1 PM service (water bottles are the exception)
  • No alcohol is permitted anywhere on Rose Hills premises
